Things to Do in Tskaltubo

Tskaltubo, a short drive from Kutaisi, was the Soviet Union's premier spa town, its radon-rich mineral springs drawing sanatorium visitors by the trainload until the 1990s; today around twenty of those grand, decaying bathhouses stand empty and are the main draw for anyone with an interest in Soviet-era architecture and dark tourism. A handful of the original bathhouses still operate and take walk-in bookings for a mineral soak. Wear shoes you don't mind getting dusty if you're exploring the abandoned buildings.
