Things to Do in Kutaisi

Kutaisi, Georgia's second city and a former capital, is about three and a half hours from Tbilisi by road, though budget flights land here directly and make it a realistic base for western Georgia rather than a day trip. Bagrati Cathedral overlooks the centre, while Gelati Monastery just outside town — a UNESCO site with 12th-century frescoes largely intact — is the stronger of the two. Prometheus Cave and the dinosaur footprints at Sataplia are the standard add-ons for a fuller day.
