Things to Do in Gori and Uplistsikhe
Gori is about an hour and a quarter west of Tbilisi and is known above all for the Stalin Museum, built around the house where he was born — a genuinely uncomfortable stop for some visitors, and a deliberately unfiltered one. Ten minutes further on, the cave town of Uplistsikhe is the better reason to make the trip: a Bronze Age settlement of rock-cut halls and streets that predates most of Georgia's churches. Most day trips from Tbilisi combine both sites rather than doing either alone.
