Things to Do in Kvareli

Kvareli, roughly two hours from Tbilisi at the eastern edge of Kakheti, is best known for the semi-sweet Kindzmarauli wine that carries its name and for the Khareba wine tunnel, a Soviet-era ammunition store cut half a kilometre into the hillside and now lined with aging barrels. Kvareli Lake and the 6th-century Nekresi Monastery, visible across the valley on its own hilltop, both make easy half-day additions to a wine-tasting stop.
