Things to Do in Batumi and the Black Sea Coast

Batumi is Georgia's main Black Sea resort, six hours from Tbilisi by road or about an hour by air, and mixes a restored 19th-century old town with a strip of modern high-rises along the boulevard. The pebble beach itself is a secondary draw compared with the Botanical Garden a short bus ride north, and the Adjara region behind the city — waterfalls, the Gonio fortress, mountain villages toward Khulo — gives Batumi more range than a straight beach stop.
