Things to Do in Kazbegi and Gergeti Trinity

Kazbegi (officially Stepantsminda) is about three hours from Tbilisi along the Georgian Military Highway, and the drive itself — through the Jvari Pass and past Ananuri and Gudauri — is as much a reason to go as the destination. Gergeti Trinity Church, perched on a ridge beneath the 5,054-metre Mount Kazbek, is the single most-photographed sight in the country and reachable on foot or by 4x4 taxi from town. Weather on the mountain changes fast, so build in a spare hour if you want a clear view of the summit.
