Things to Do in Telavi

Telavi is Kakheti's regional capital, about an hour and a half to two hours east of Tbilisi, and works best as a base for wineries rather than as a sightseeing stop in itself — Batonis Tsikhe castle and the old town centre can both be seen in under two hours. The Tsinandali estate, former home of the Chavchavadze family and now a working winery and museum, is the single best-booked outing from here, with Alaverdi Monastery's vineyard-ringed cathedral a common add-on.
